CONSIGNING TO OUR AUCTION

The Woodshed Gallery LLC specializes in only one thing: FINE ART.
That includes Paintings, prints, drawings, photos, ethnographic art and antiquities from all continents.
We don't dilute our attention or energy by selling general antiques, furniture, jewelry, or anything else, unless it's related to ART.

We will accept individual pieces, or entire collections or artists' estates for consignment.
Sometimes, to facilitate your needs, we will make an offer to buy entire households or estates outright,
and disperse the non-art items to other sellers.

Here are the first steps toward consignment:

1/ Submit images for an auction evaluation online.
Before we accept an item on consignment, we have to see it.
Send Photos and a Description via email to: bruce@woodshedgallery.com

OR

2/  Make an appointment to meet with an appraiser.
We typically do not make in-home appointments unless you have a collection or estate
which cannot be easily photographed or transported to our gallery.

We will only provide a verbal appraisal.
Typically, written valuations are only used for estate planning, insurance or tax purposes.
Auction evaluations are provided free of charge.  There is no obligation to consign, though
we take it on good faith that you are considering selling your items via our auction.

If you need a written appraisal, we have a reasonable fee for that service.  Call for information.

THEN

Keep in mind that we make every effort to show your pieces to the most interested worldwide audience.
To do that, each auction has a theme. If we feel your material is not a good fit for our upcoming auctions,
we will be unable to offer it at auction.

If your property has been accepted on consignment, we will guide you through the consignment and auction process in a warm, approachable manner.

1. Send in Material to be Consigned.

When you are invited to consign, you will receive instructions on how to ship the material to us or arrange for an appointment to bring it in to our Franklin, Massachusetts gallery. If you choose to ship your items, please include a detailed packing list inside along with copies of any email correspondence.

Please keep in mind that any auction estimates you received based on photographs may be revised once we are able to assesses the item in person.

2. Sign a Consignment Contract.

Review your contract carefully before signing. It contains important information and outlines the commission rate and fees that you will be charged.

The low and high auction estimates listed in your contract give an expected range of value for your property, and give the buyer guidelines for potential purchase. The estimate is not a guarantee. Your items may fail to find a bidder, or sell below or far above the estimate.

For highly valued pieces, you may set a reserve, or a minimum price at which the item can sell.  This eserve price will be part of your contract. Most items listed in a Woodshed Gallery LLC auction are offered without a reserve.  This can work to your advantage, since starting the bidding at a low price will often inspire more bidders to join in. Bidder competition often leads to a higher final hammer price.

3. Photography, Catalogs, and Marketing

Working with The Wodshed Gallery LLC  means worldwide exposure for your artworks, and targeted marketing. To create the auctions and market the catalogues effectively, we do not want to rush. It takes time to do it right. Plan on at least 2-3 months from the time you sign a consignment contract to the date of the auction.

During this time, we will research and catalog your material, take high quality pictures of it, plan advertisements, events, and outreach around the auction. This outreach includes email and social media campaigns, a press release, and a dedicated landing page on our website for each auction. A description and high quality photograph of your item will appear in the online auction catalog, on a page optimized for web searches.

We take special care to place your property in the most appropriate auctions.
Placing similar material together means attracting a higher number of passionate, motivated buyers.

4. Watch for your Pre-Sale Notice.

Two weeks before the auction in which your property is scheduled to sell, you will receive a pre-sale notice via email.
This notice contains the auction name, number, and date along with the lot numbers of your property.
For example, your oil painting may be Lot 177 scheduled to sell in Master Paintings Of The 1950's Auction.
Your auction will be live online on the following websites:
(Please note that it will appear on Ebay about 48 hours after being posted on our site.)

5. Attend the Auction from the Comfort of Your Own Home.

6. Sold!

If you’re not watching from your computer when the hammer falls, you can check the prices realized on our website.
Results are updated continuously during the sale. Your payment is calculated from the hammer price.

Markets are unpredictable, and the auctioneer sometimes has to make the strategic decision to pass a lot rather than sell it for less than its value.  In the event that your property fails to sell, you have two choices. You may choose to offer the lot again in a future auction, or you may wish to have your property returned to you. Charges may apply for returned property. We can make arrangements for either of these options after the auction.

If your property sold, congratulations! Expect to receive your payment 35 days after the auction.

Commission Rates & Fees

Selling art is our main focus.
Your items will receive personal care and attention
including targeted marketing, advertising, and worldwide exposure.

The Woodshed Gallery LLC charges commission rates which are NOT competitive within the auction industry.
They may seem reasonable, or may seem high.  But we are specialists, and like all highly skilled specialists,
our rates reflect our capabilities.
If you are looking for a bargain, please be advised to look elsewhere.

Other fees may include insurance, transportation, storage, handling, and special advertising featuring your lots.
You will be advised of advertising costs (if any) prior to our contracting for the ads, and you may choose to opt-out.
However, our experiance shows that targeted advertising can enhance the profitability of sales.

With all of the above, our commission rates and fees may be negotiable if your items are of special interest to us.

We encourage you to call to discuss the possibility of placing your property for sale with us.
